Welcome to the ckupris wiki page of wonder
Both myself and Richard invite you to peruse some of the jibber that is on this page. Most of what you are about to read was written on a rather dull Saturday night. It's unlikely you will find any genuinely interesting or humorous material on this page. More likely it will give you an idea of how not to make your own wiki page.
Music
If it's awesome I like it. Pretty much all I need to say on that.
The moment that change my life (in terms of music appreciation) was the first time I heard RJD2's "Good times Roll PT.2". Hearing the rest of the Deadringer album opened my eyes to a whole new world of music. While searching for RJD2 and DJ Shadow stuff on Suprnova (RIP) I found a few torrents upped by TMB members. The rest as they say is history.
TV shows that all men must watch and enjoy
Trailer Park Boys
Only recently discovered by myself, TPB proved to be a life changing experience. The show is loosely based on a mockumentary style (made famous by Christopher Guest's "This is Spinal Tap"), it follows the lives of residents at the Sunnyvale Trailer Park.
The main characters are Ricky, Julian and Bubbles. Other noteworthy characters are Mr Lahney, Randy, J Roc, Cory, Trevor, Lucy and Sarah. Ricky and Julian are carear criminals who specialise mostly in growing weed. There money making schemes are often woefully executed and results in Ricky and Julian going to jail. Ricky is especially stupid and struggles with the most basic aspects of the English language due to never obtaining his Grade 10. Julian is the brains behind most of the boys escapades, his plans however are forever being ruined by the incompetence of Ricky. Cory and Trevor are Ricky and Julian's dogsbodies who are also especially stupid. Their inability to form coherent though ends in disaster on countless occasions.
The most entertaining aspect of TPB is the inventive use of swear words employed by the boys. Among my favorites are Rickys knock, knock jokes which usually go as follows;
Ricky: Knock knock
Other person (usually Mr Lahney or Randy): Who's there?
Ricky: Fuck off
Mr Lanhey's shit analogies are also a constant source of amusement. Some classics are "shit hawks", "winds of shit" and "shit abyss".
To date there have been five seasons, each one bringing hours of enjoyment. There have also been two movies, one which precludes the tv show and the latest one which was released in 2006.
If you are a straight man I command you to watch this show.
Arrested Development
US comedy is rarely as good as this show. Arrested Development follows the dysfunctional Bluth family through their bizare lives.
Wikipedia for Arrested Development
Curb Your Enthusiasm
This is a show which I found hard to get into intially. Having not watched any of the Seifeild show I had no idea of the genius of Larry David. The show employs a fly on the wall style as it follows Larry David about the everyday happenings of his life.
Apparently based on experiences of Larry, the show mostly revolves around his neurosis and his tendency to get himself in ridiculous situations.
The ckupris FAQ
So to save having to answer the hundreds of PMs that I get each day asking me why I am so great ect. I thought I would just put all of the FAQs in here. If you have a question you want answered, tack it onto the end.
How did you come up with such an awesome username? The universe has a way of knowing badasses before they are born and hence ensures that they are born into families with rad names. My username is the first letter of my first name plus my sirname.
Cue Sheets
I pretty much love cue sheets. I rarely use them to split large MP3s but my media player of choice (Amarok) picks them up when it finds one in the same directory as the file you are playing. It then dynamically changes the "Now playing" as you progress through a mix. This is awesome for me as I m electronic music n00b having only got into it in the last few years, hence I cant ID any of the songs. Using this I can quickly find out what tunes are rocking at any time in a mix. Awesome huh... (I think foobar can do the same thing, I don't use it so I m not 100% on that)
Cue Sheets I have created
So recently I realised that there are hundreds of mixes I have which are without cue sheets. I m now in the process of making cue sheets for them, starting with my favorite ones of course. I proposed the idea of a cue sheet project on TMB to get the community involved, an idea which was as popular as farting in a elevator. Undeterred I thought "fuck those a-holes, I will do it anyway" and so I started the cue sheet project here on the TMB wiki.
At the moment I am using QED to make my cue sheets. Its java based, hence cross platform. It has a few quirks but it seems to get the job done.
Here is a list of cue sheets I have made so far.
- 2006.03.28 - Winter Music Conference - Live@Involved, Space
- 2007.03.18 - EM - Groove Armada
- 2006-10-27 - BBC Electric Proms - Fatboy Slim
I encourage anyone who makes cue sheets for their own uses to paste them on the wiki for everyone to enjoy, sharing is what the community is all about in the end.
Norks
I thought that my wiki page wouldn't really be complete without at least some mention of norks. The Norks Appreciation Thread is possibly one of my favorite on TMB, and seems to be very popular amount the TMB readership. It currently has roughly 18500 views and almost 40 pages of grade A norks.
To any females reading this page, if you have quality norks pics feel free to send them to me to evaluate.
Geeky stuff
Probably the least interesting part of my page, but I thought it a good idea to include it seeing as this stuff makes up a major part of my life.
Linux
These days I m pretty big into the Linux scene. I first got into Linux back in 2003 when I started playing around with Redhat. Since then I have used various flavours including Debian, Slackware, Suse, Mandrake, Fedora and Gentoo. I am currently running Gentoo and have been for roughly two years. I have found it the most powerfull and versatile distro for users who have a clue as to what is going on. It also has some of the best documentation available, Gentoo Wiki has hundereds of articles covering almost all aspects of system maintenance.
Hardware
My rig at the moment isn't particularily impressive:
- AMD Athlon X2 4200+
- 1.5G of generic RAM
- Asus A8N-VM CSM motherboard
- 3x Seagate 7200.9 500GB hard drives
I'm not a gamer so I dont really need the latest and greatest hardware. Linux has fairly conservative hardware requirements which means you can have a very usable desktop system on a relatively old system.
RAID adventures
Recently (March 2007) I setup my first RAID system. I picked up 3 500GB Seagate HHDs for £75 each from ebuyer to make a RAID 5 system. RAID 5 basically splits data across multiple disks and has built in parity which allows you to rebuild lost data in the event of a HDD dying. With three 500GB HDDs I ended up with 1TB of storage space, two disks worth, the other 500GB being set aside for parity.
I decided to go with software RAID for a few reasons:
- I didn't have the $$$ to buy a RAID card. Cheap RAID cards are worse than software RAID, and good cards are very expensive.
- I am not tied any particular RAID hardware. If using hardware RAID you must replace a broken RAID card with the same type, difficult if the card is no longer in production.
- A RAID array built on software RAID can be plugged into any Linux system and will be instantly usable. Handy if your mobo dies.
- Even entry level desktops these days have enough boot to easily process parity calculations without seeing any major hit in terms of usability and performance.
It took quite a bit of fannying about to get it all setup right. I spent a couple days doing research on the procedure before the HDDs arrived, then spent a whole day setting up the array. Syncing 500GB drives takes ages and I cocked up the setup on numerous occasions, setting me back hours at a time. The end result though is a pretty robust and fast setup. I haven't done any benchmarking and its unlikely I will, its fast enough for my needs at the moment.
Web Design
Over the past couple years I have dabbled in a bit of web design work. Usually small stuff for personal use, friends and family ect. These days I rarely design stuff from scratch and I've turned to using well developed web software suites for most sites. There are lots of open source web applications now available which will easily plug into a LAMP (Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP) setup and provide instant solutions. I have also been growing quite fond of wikis. They are incredibly easy to setup and allow you to get content up really fast. Most convieient of all is the developers have already done the near impossbile job of getting the CSS to render properly on the disgrace or a browser that is Internet Explorer.
